I am Indra Singh from Village Balariya in Nawalgarh Block of Jhunjhunu District in Rajasthan. 15 years ago, I used to apply chemical fertilizers on my crops. Then around 7-8 years back, the soil of my farm became rough, which affected my crops.

The yield also started decreasing every year in-spite of using more chemical fertilizers. This took a heavy toll on my farm and reduced my productivity drastically. During 2007, I heard about the organic farming programme of Morarka Foundation. I visited their Nawalgarh office and explained my problem to the team.

I was included for the programme, which included Barley cultivation through organic farming. Initially, I was apprehensive about the programme but within a short span of time, I noticed drastic improvement in my yield and production. Not only the quantity but the quality of my yield also improved. Organic farming has transformed my life and all credit goes to Morarka Foundation for their belief in the programme.

Mahendra Bhai - Khirsara, Gujarat

I am Mahendra Bhai, son of Dhan Ji Bhai from the Village of Khirsara, Post Sukhpur, Tehsil Navarbhana, District Bhuj-Kutch in Gujarat.

I own around 9.5 acres of land. I have 5 Desi Cows, which provide me enough biomass to recycle and make my own compost. I use vermicompost for farming. I feel the main benefits of organic farming are, primarily there is less consumption of water. Secondly, there is less spoilage of fruits.

Moreover, the quality, of fruits is much superior to fruits infested with chemicals. I learnt organic farming through Morarka Foundation in Kutch region of Gujarat in 2004. For the past 5 years, I have been practicing organic farming for my Kesar Mango crops and the yield difference is quiet remarkable. The quality, taste and flavour of mangoes are far better than conventional mangoes. And the best part, the water requirement of my crops has also decreased.
