Morarka Organic is striving to create harmony in life and ensure a better future, and it is doing so through food. Food is a complex and diverse word. It encompasses nutrition, health, diet, traditions, cuisines, recipes, cultivation and value addition. Morarka Organic aims to create a cadre of people or ‘Foodsperts’ as we call them, who are knowledgeable about food and all the above mentioned aspects of food. Foodsperts are experts in food and its history, origin, cultivation and nutrition.

Life today is all speed and time saving. This fast pace life disrupts our habits, our health and our lives. Food today revolves around one key word - instant. Food which took our forefathers hours to prepare is now made in a matter of minutes, all at the press of a microwave button. Throughout history, food has been viewed as a ritual where careful thought went into preparation and serving of a cuisine or recipe. Eating the food was also a ritual in itself, where people would spend hours on the table savouring every bite and deriving pleasure from each meal. Food today is quick and instantaneous, hence the term fast food. Food today is swallowed without a thought, and a meal is over with three bites of a burger. Trying to get ahead in this rat race has made us lose our food tradition, nutrition and most importantly health. Through our Foodsperts, Morarka Organic wants to revive and rediscover the heritage of food.

A foodspert’s concept of food is very different from others. It is based on the idea that food means pleasure, heritage and culture, and that the act of eating is more than just feeding fuel to your body. Eating involves careful look at diet and nutrition, and influences attitudes and emotions. The act of eating should lead to pleasure, contentment and satisfaction and not just satiation of hunger. A foodspert believes that enjoyment of food must be combined with an understanding of the diversity of food. Countless traditional vegetables, grains, fruits, cuisines and recipes are being lost to convenience food. A foodspert seeks to save and protect this disappearing and invaluable food heritage. A foodspert works towards reviving foods that have been forgotten, ignored or are at the risk of disappearing completely.

A foodspert’s philosophy is simple- he believes that the food we eat should be tasty, unpolluted and nutritious in a way that doesn’t harm the planet or animals or human health. A foodspert is not just a consumer, but a partner in the production of food. He is informed and educated on all aspects of food, right from production to nutrition. In a way one can say that a foodspert is an all rounder when it comes to food, knowing all aspects of food right from its heritage and tradition to its cultivation and processing, to its nutrition, diet and recipes.

In a way a foodspert brings together the scientific world, farmers and producers and the final end consumers. It provides the crucial link between the three, enabling exchange of ideas, thoughts and information. A foodspert unifies the innovations and research of the academic and scientific world and the traditional knowledge of farmers and food producers, into one platform which can be easily grasped and put to use by end consumers.

With careful study of all aspects of food, a foodspert helps people make daily choices about food, keeping in mind nutrition, diet, heritage, cuisine and recipe. A foodspert helps consumers convert from being passive observers to active members of the food revolution. This is being done by changing the attitude and relationship that consumers share with their food. A foodspert is instrumental in making consumers a medium of change, choosing clean and fair food.

A foodspert also recognizes the strong connections between food and the planet. In its attempt to improving the quality of life, foodsperts are also saving traditions, cultures, communities and bio diversity. In order to recognize and appreciate food one must also save and protect the very resources that give us food.
